Direct measurement of the magnetocaloric effect in Tb5Si2Ge2.

A method for measuring the adiabatic temperature change Delta T-S upon quasi-static application of all external magnetic field H is proposed. Delta T-S is directly measured with an accuracy better than 0.01 K. Results of experiments on the giant magnetocaloric compound Tb5Si2Ge2 are compared with those obtained from magnetization and heat capacity in all applied field. (c) 2004 Elsevier B.V.
